(If you happen to own a Mac with a disc drive, consider creating a DVD backup of Lion. The app will give you the option of creating a bootable drive out of either a DVD or a USB keychain. Start the Lion DiscMaker app with your USB flash drive plugged in and with the Lion install file sitting inside your application folder. Lion DiscMaker makes this part of the process a snap. You have been warned! Creating Your Bootable Drive Now, before you start formatting your drive, back up anything currently on your flash drive that you’d like to keep–because this process will completely erase the contents of the USB drive and rewrite it with a copy of Lion. Downloading a third-party app just to handle this process is a bit of a bother, but Lion Discmaker enormously simplifies the process of installing Lion on a USB keychain. To streamline the process, download the free Lion DiscMaker app. Follow what you see on the screen.If you already own a copy of OS X Lion, you should be able to download a fresh copy at any time from the Purchases tab of the Mac App Store. After you see Apple logo, hold down Option key (⌥) to access boot menu. Your bootable USB drive with macOS Monterey is ready to go. Install media now available at "/Volumes/Install macOS Monterey" $ sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Monterey.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia -volume /Volumes/SLICK-32GB/ -nointeractionĮrasing disk: 0%. When this is done, the following output should be seen.
This process will consume several minutes. You should be prompted for your administrator password at this point. Open it and type the following command: sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Monterey.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia -volume /Volumes/SLICK-32GB/ -nointeraction Close Disk Utility and proceed to the Terminal application. When this is done, do not unplug your drive. You are going to loose anything that was stored on the selected drive but I think it goes without saying. Now choose format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click Erase. Select it and proceed to the Erase section. Newly plugged-in drive should appear on the left sidebar in Disk Utility window. Plug the USB drive of your choice into your Mac and open Disk Utility. Once we have the Installer file and know its location, lets carry on to the next stage. By default the installation file will be located at /Applications/Install macOS Monterey.app.
As previously, ensure your macOS Monterey Installer is already downloaded via System Preferences or App Store.
